A collection of deep, bad beats inspired by the unparalleled sumo power of Edmond Honda.

As it happened last year, after making a handful of tracks i find myself with a lot of scrapped material: some of that, after a bit of time and polish, turn out surprisingly good. This new collection covers a lot more sonical ground, with some dubstep / uk garage vibes and even a little crazy jaunt into 4/4 territory.

And, of course, a definite Edmond Honda vibe.

Honestly my own contribution is among the weakest stuff on there. Yeah i said it, can’t front, the overall quality of this is well beyond the standards, this is clearly no hastily put together release. Here’s the track in question.

Vee fun by grillo

For me it’s a bit of a throwback to things i used to do a couple of years ago. The drums have more of a breakbeat feel, there’s less synth stuff and it sounds a bit more funky. All in all i like the track, but it doesn’t seem to fit well with other things i’m doing nowadays, and i’m glad i was able to still find a good, great outlet for it!

Acre is a deep dubstep/electronica producer from Manchester, UK. He has an EP due for release on Saturate Records in the coming months featuring the track ‘I Saw The Crescent’ that we featured a few months back.

Grillo is an Italian electronic hip-hop producer who recently self release his ‘I Had U Ken EP’ a “tribute to the all American awesomeness of Street Fighter’s Ken Masters”. He also featured on Justlikemusic’s Oscillations compilation and dropped his Fireworks LP on Homework Records at the end of 2009.

Bastille is an insanely talented producer from Cambridge, England. Brought up surrounded by a large variety of music his sound spans multiple genres and styles with quality and perfection. Ghosts of Fireworks are based in the South of England making hip-hop influenced electronica music. This year they have been self releasing numerous tracks and EPs from the 52 Ghosts project which I have really enjoyed. I’ve got a track of mine in it, which is conveniently called ‘Fronting the Weekend’ due to my propensity in scoffing the usual weekend activities in the last months. But everyday i’m hustlin like they say, and can’t seem to make time for every single thing. But i digress.

FIREWORKS REMIXES adds a wider look to the downbeat scene already visited by Grillo.
Everything in our plans just happened as we involved an important international name like the parisian Fulgeance; a well known italian one like (Costa) and a rising talent from Bologna: Unstable Compound.

Fireworks is revisited but not destroyed: Fulgeance gives a further demonstration of is open minded music with a pure down-funk remix of Brown Box. (Costa) brings some dusty synth shots to the battle remixing Be Aware. Unstable Compound reveals for the first time his new obscure, filtered dubstep side, playing with Double Rare Tender. In the end, Grillo himself liked everything a lot and decided to put his second vision of Big City Lights, which looks more like a brand new track than a remix.

Matteo shows how the new Italian abstract hiphop movement is active and fresh, winking to old school stuff and watching to contemporary instrumental tendencies at the same time.

“Fireworks” puts together influences by Prefuse 73′s melodic taste, powerful triumphal beat lines and a lot of attractive spoken quotes perfectly cut into the main rhythmic pattern.

Cut to months later and we have a series of tight remixes that push the original track into different genres, getting as far as four to the floor territory thanks to a fruitful collab with the talented ‘Gulla’.

But it’s not just retreads of an old track, there’s some brand new material there too. There’s TKNW, an 80s-style-electro-breaking banger to dance off to, and Jamprime 1, first cut in a series of old school joints all blunted-out, mashed-up classic breakbeats and little else.

And that’s still not it. Taking advantage of Bandcamp’s new ‘bonus items’ feature, i included some nifty extras to sweeten the deal. There’s alternate cover art for some of the tracks, a digital pdf booklet, exclusive desktop wallpapers and an high quality version of the official Luta videoclip. Mind you, a lower quality version of the video will be let loose on the web in the next few days, as soon as we can make vimeo work actually, but for the time being it’s exclusive to the release.
