Ah, the elusive Emu SP1200 sound. Today, while most of the old school hardware samplers and drum machines gather dust everywhere, these big clunky emu boxes are still going strong in the second hand market. The reason? That lo-fi crunchiness has proven unattainable in software form. A while ago I got interested in Acquit music’s freeware emulation of the classic beatbox, and made up a cool vintage breakbeat / hip hop drumkit for the final release. Mind you, the emulation wasn’t very accurate, but still added loads of grit and murk to the samples you loaded into it.
Sadly, Acquit’s web site seems to have vanished, so i thought about uploading an expanded version of my original drum kit here, as a free download. Actually it’s two different versions, a squeaky clean one (well, as clean as you can get when sampling from old records actually) and a dirty, grungy, growling straight sp1200 one.
Sp1200 drumkit 1(clean)
Sp1200 drumkit 1(dirty)
The samples are provided in Battery, Kontakt, EXS24, Renoise .rnsi and of course straight .wav files format. Enjoy.
That’d be all for today, but stay tuned because i’m going to post other drum samples i got straight from the hot converters of a very bad SP1200 in the next few weeks.
In the mean time, if you feel like it, you can thank me with a paypal donation, highly appreciated chief.
